Changing of the Guard

I was always fascinated by the poem by A. A. Milne about the changing of the guard when Christopher Robin and Alice went to London, I think it is either from ‘When We Were Very Young’ or ‘Now We Are Six’. My parents used to read it to me when I was a child and I thought it sounded like such a great thing. I live a long way from London and so as a child only had a few opportunities to go there. I remember visiting once with grandparents but not seeing Buckingham Palace. I was older and visited with my Aunt when I finally got to watch the changing of the guards and even met some of the horses afterwards. I still remember patting one of the horses which was fun.

This sort of memory is fantastic and so if you are visiting the UK and coming in to Gatwick airport, why not jump in a hire car and get yourself to London to see some of the fabulous things that are there. You can make some fabulous memories for yourself and your family and see all of those things you have always wanted to look at. Take lots of photographs of video footage and those memories will stay with you forever. There is not just Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guards but there are many interesting monuments and buildings, museums and art galleries, cafes and restaurants, shops and hotels and everything you would expect from a major European city and more.

Travelling to Brighton

If you are having a long stay over in Gatwick then it is well worth having a look at some of the places in the surrounding area. Gatwick has not got too much to do in the area and if you want the opportunity to see a bit of the UK then why not hire a car and take a trip to the beach. Brighton is a really fantastic place to be with a lot happening and plenty of hotels, guest houses and bed and breakfasts for a range of tastes and budgets. It is wise to book in advance though as you will not only have a chance to do some research on the Internet first but you will also guarantee that you get a bed for the night in this popular town.

It will take a few hours to get there, so it really is only an option if you have a day or two to spare. It has fantastic shops, ranging from modern department stores to old antique shops as well as gift shops, clothes shops and supermarkets and there is a pier, the sea and everything else you could possibly expect from a typical UK seaside town but because it is close to London it is rather more upmarket and therefore more enjoyable. Be warned though, it is not a sandy beach so do not take buckets and spades for the children but chalks so that they can draw on the pebbles. There is even an old fashioned merry-go-round which they will love.
