Getting a Hotel Around Gatwick Airport

Getting a good hotel in London is very easy. In fact the hardest part is picking one from the massive selection you will presented with! The hotel industry has been very hard hit by the recession in the UK and prices are extremely competitive.

If you are flying into London the chances are you’ll be coming in via Gatwick airport or Heathrow. It should be noted that these two airports are very far apart, so you should take care to pick a hotel close to the one you are flying into unless you’re not too worried about travelling for a couple of hours.

There are about a dozen hotels in and around the airport itself, but if you’re not over for business the chances are you’ll want something a little quieter! If this is the case it may be worth looking into getting a hotel in the city of London where you can live and breath the vibrant atmosphere of the UK capital for the entirety of your stay.

As said before hotels are pretty cheap, so it isn’t too hard to get one at a very good price. Most will offer parking too if you are planning to hire a car, and the rates tend to be very reasonable. The UK is very strict on price fixing so competition is always stiff.

So shop around and do your research and you should not have a problem getting a very good hotel at a very reasonable price.

Travelling to London for the Christmas Break

If you choose to visit London for a short break away you basically have a choice of 3 airports. The first is Gatwick airport, the second Heathrow airport and the third is Stansted, which is actually quite some distance from London near the town of Bishop Stortford.

This distance really leaves just Gatwick airport and Heathrow as viable options, with Stansted better suited to those looking to visit the many large towns just outside of London. Heathrow has been undergoing a massive refurbishment programme over the last 2 years and getting in and out of the airport can be a bit of a nightmare sometimes. It must also be noted that the two airports are some distance apart and you should consider where in London you are staying.

Gatwick airport is near to the M25 so travelling to and from the airport should not be too much trouble (traffic permitting).

London is a huge city which has tourists from the UK and around the world all year, so you should have no problem booking a hotel. This said you should probably book in advance anyways just to be sure.

London is excellent for eating out, with many trendy restaurants and bars, and the city is always alive even on weekdays as you’d expect from a large metropolis. Covent Garden is a particularly nice area to go out in, Leicester square is also very popular but a little to hectic at times for some people’s tastes.

Be sure to book car hire in advance too if travelling to Gatwick as booking on the day can be tricky.
